Our Story

Pete Sands was born and raised on the Navajo-Indian reservation in southern Utah. He graduated from Whitehorse High School in his hometown of Montezuma Creek, UT. After high school he attened the College of Eastern Utah and obtained his A.S. in Criminal Justice. Afterwards he was accepted into Weber State University in Ogden, UT and there he obtained his B.S. in Criminal Justice as well.

Nevertheless, he had a calling on the side with writing and music. He began singing and playing while he attended the university. After graduating he went on a journey to find his calling. Years of playing in coffee houses,corner stores, bars, and open mics, Sands decided to record his first EP.

In the fall of 2014 he released his debut EP "Dirt Dance Floor" under the name BLACKKISS. The music caught the ears of filmmakers and soon enough BLACKKISS was on the radar. His big break came when a musician Sands looked up to, now good friend, Whitey Morgan asked him to open his Salt Lake City show for them. This was the first time Sands was ever in front a huge crowd. 

Sands is currently recording his first debut album under new band name "Pete Sands & the Drifters". The name of the album is "Thunder Roads". The Drifters  are Steven Tabarez on Drums, Chris Aguilar on Lead Guitar, Nate Meredith on Bass, and on/off again steel pedal guitarist Ryan Hawthorne.

Some notable lives shows are performing at the Sundance Film Festival 2014-2015, Thunder Country Fest 2014 (w/ Bucky Covington, Lonestar, Mark Wills, etc), opening for John Moreland, Two Car Garage, Matt Woods, Randy Rogers Band, The White Buffalo, HoneyHoney, and their all time favorite Whitey Morgan & the 78's. Pete Sands also works closely with Yelawolf, Shooter Jennings, Joey Stylez, and filmmaker Taylor Sheridan.
